How Mahjong Ways plays

Mahjong Ways runs on a 5-reel × 4-row grid with a cluster pays mechanic — there are no fixed paylines. Any group of 5 or more matching symbols connected horizontally or vertically pays out. After a win, the winning tiles are removed and remaining symbols drop down while new ones fall from above (cascade / avalanche). Cascades continue until no new cluster forms, so a single spin can chain multiple wins.

The game features a multiplier trail that climbs with each successive cascade in a single spin. Multipliers carry over into the free-spin round, where they can reach up to x5000 on a single spin.

Free spins

Land 3 or more scatter symbols anywhere on the grid to trigger the free-spin bonus. The number of free spins awarded scales with scatter count. During free spins, the cascade multiplier does not reset between spins — it accumulates across the entire bonus round, dramatically amplifying late-round wins.

Volatility and RTP

• Volatility — medium-high. Frequent small cluster wins keep the game engaging; the big payouts come from multiplier chains in free spins.
• RTP — configurable per operator. The default theoretical return is set at the platform level; operators can adjust the edge percentage from the back office.
• Max win — up to x5000 the total bet, achieved through stacked cascade multipliers in the free-spin round.
